Must try foods in Amsterdam

What’s a city that comes to mind when you think ‘youthful’? Well, I think Amsterdam, Netherlands. When we first arrived at Amsterdam, Akeel booked a beautiful, cozy, cool and trendy capsule hotel. I might share a little more about that later. After we settled in, we were starving! We hit up a Febo, a vending machine style restaurant where you can grab hot foods in slots as soon as you pay. Afterwards, we head to bed to recover from travelling.

It was around Pride Month and everywhere was filled with colour. We walked twenty minutes to eat at The Pantry. The Pantry sold authentic native to Amsterdam foods like bitternballen, mashed potatoes, and dutch sausages and we ordered exactly that.

We then explored the neighborhoods and went shopping at cheese stores, gourmet goods and other shopping venues.

We had no prior plans for dinner so luckily, the capsule had an app for us to communicate with locals. We asked where we should go for dinner and we walked to Cannibale Royale Rozengracht. Akeel was so excited because one of his favourite cuisines is barbeque. Shouts out to Matt at the capsule hotel for this spot because it really hit. We grabbed a meat platter with jerk chicken, brisket, beef ribs, Dutch sausages, coleslaw, pickles, pickled red onions and barbeque sauce on the side.

For dessert, we walked to a bar / café where we ordered 2 shots of espresso and an Appeltaart, or in other words, Apple Pie. I don’t even think I need to explain how delicious it was because the photo says it all.

We did some more exploring and unrelated food stuff this day. The focus of today was The Pancake Bakery. Amsterdam was pouring rain and we waited outside for about two hours to grab Dutch pancakes.

These pancakes were unlike anything I’ve seen before, it was massive and stuffed with a variety of items. Akeel and I decided to share because we wanted one savoury and one sweet. We also grabbed a side of nachos and two café lattes. Mine was a mandarin honey nut pancake and Akeel ordered the bell pepper, salami and cheese pancakes. They were so delicious but also really filling.

I know I say this with every post, but I would love to revisit Amsterdam once again. I wanted to go visit a kitty on a boat but unfortunately the boat was over capacity, and we weren’t able to pet some kitties. I would love to bike in this city and walk alongside the canals.
